Freelancer Friendly Policy

Andy McCredie Productions Limited (AMP) commits to fair, transparent and respectful working conditions for every freelancer on our productions, whether or not you belong to a union. This policy applies to everyone we engage: performers, creatives, access support workers, producers and crew.

Our commitments

  1. Equal respect. Union-represented and unrepresented freelancers receive the same professional dignity, fairness and respect. Nobody is disadvantaged because of their representation status.

  2. Written terms before work starts. Your fee, days, hours, credit and payment dates are set out in a written agreement. You have reasonable time to take independent advice (from a union, legal adviser or other adviser) and to propose changes. We negotiate any proposed changes in good faith.

  3. Fair pay. We set fees with reference to ITC/Equity, UK Theatre, BECTU and Writers’ Guild guidance. You can ask to see our rate methodology, and you can contest a fee by reference to that guidance and seek union or professional advice.

  4. Protected fees. Agreed fees are fixed and insulated from overruns elsewhere in the budget. Payment never depends on grant drawdown, Theatre Tax Relief credit or box office income.

  5. Paid on time. We pay valid invoices within the period set out in your agreement.

  6. Honest hours. Working days, breaks and rest follow the Working Time Regulations 1998, with paid meal and rest breaks where your agreement says so. Hours logs record time and type of task only, never personal information. Work beyond your agreed allocation needs your prior written agreement and is paid.

  7. Clear scope, and the right to say no. You may refuse any task outside your agreed scope, without giving a reason and without any effect on your payment, credit, reference or future work. A significant change of role, or any task carrying legal, financial or safeguarding responsibility, needs your informed written consent and a signed variation before it starts.

  8. Access and reasonable adjustments. We gather access requirements proactively and confidentially before work begins, and make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010 across rehearsal, staging and administrative environments. We keep a dedicated access budget that is protected from production deficits. If we cannot accommodate an adjustment within the production’s resources, we tell you promptly in writing, discuss alternatives openly and use reasonable endeavours to secure additional access funding.

  9. Budget transparency. On request, we show freelancers the project budget at category level, with the rate methodology for each role. Individual fees of named people are redacted unless they have consented. Ask us and we will explain the process.

  10. Speaking up without penalty. Raising a fair pay concern, contesting a fee, seeking union advice, refusing out-of-scope work, making a protected disclosure or using our reporting system will never be grounds for termination, non-payment, or any disadvantage in future work or references. No confidentiality term stops you from seeking union or legal advice, or from reporting discrimination, harassment or criminal conduct to a competent body.

  11. Credit. We credit you accurately wherever the creative team is listed. If we make an inadvertent omission, we correct it promptly once notified.

  12. Safe working. We follow our Health and Safety Policy. You may decline any activity you reasonably consider unsafe without that being a breach of your agreement.

  13. Respect and zero tolerance. Our Zero Tolerance, Anti-Racism and Inclusion Policy applies to everyone, including AMP’s Managing Director.
